In June 2019 the project “Adopt Your Heritage” brought together 6 organisations from the UK, Bulgaria, Spain, Italy, Portugal, and Turkey to help young people become more aware of their cultural prosperity, their identity and characteristics, embedding this knowledge into future generations.
The project aims to raise awareness about the cultural prosperity in their communities and in those of their peers. Young people will develop new skills such as social responsibility, communication, problem-solving, initiative, creativity, planning, teamwork, flexibility, tolerance, and acceptance towards different cultures.
As the project aims to promote cultural heritage, the group had five days to visit UNESCO heritage sites and places of interest in Sicily. They had excursions at ancient monuments, at Etna Volcano, which is one of the most active volcano in the world. And after that they saw the greek ancient theater and an amazing view at the top of the mountain.
Also, they had a walk at Piazza Garibaldi and climbing at the ancient castle where they saw an amazing view of Cefalu. After that they went to an old Cathedral with impressive architecture.
They visited Town Hall where the mayor had a speech about the history and culture of the city.
