“Wholesome Living Substance Misuse Is A Self Abuse” is an Erasmus+ project focused on tackling the topic of substance misuse while promoting healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle among students and their families.
In May, project partners from the UK, Italy, Turkey, Poland, Greece, and Romania met in Cluj – Transilvania for the 1st LTTA.
First, we visited the city hall, where we were hosted by the Mayor of Cluj Napoca and shown a great presentation of the city, its culture and the social and economic achievements made over the last decade. We then visited our host’s school before going on a guided tour of the great city, including the Franciscan Catholic church, dating back to the 13th century. We ended the day with a traditional meal, sampling some of Cluj’s tasty cuisine.
We visited some of the city’s ancient churches. We then headed to the famous Salt Mines, going several hundred meters underground and viewing some amazing sights. We learned a lot about the air in the mines and its healing properties. Both students and teachers/trainers thoroughly enjoyed the experience, visiting the city and its many wonderful attractions.
The group took part in another amazing excursion, this time, Sighisoara, a Transylvanian city dating back to the Roman times. Inside the Clock Tower, we saw a plethora of historic items and breath-taking views from the viewing platform. It was truly a magical, historical trip learning about the legend of Vlad Dracula and what it was like to live in the 16th century!
We visited the Technical college of Napoca, where we watched many videos about the effects of substance abuse and emotional stories from former users. After this, we had the pleasure to witness the year 12 graduation day which was an emotional moment for many of the participants who remembered their own graduation. At the end of the day, we visited a Romanian cultural museum where we learned how traditional clothes were made and had the opportunity to make some homemade bread. To summarize, it was a culturally rich learning experience.
We started the day with a second visit to the Technical College of Napoca to watch a great presentation on healthy eating and nutrition, followed by additional presentations from the participants showcasing healthy dessert receipts. After the project partner meeting, we were presented with our certificates and bidding farewell to the group. A great conclusion to five amazing days filled with a lot of cultural experiences, emotions, fun and learning more about healthy living and the city of Cluj-Napoca.
Big thank you to our hosts, the Technical College of Napoca and project coordinators Shine Aloud for their great work!
