Happy World Book Day – Some of Our Favourites

Happy World Book Day!

We are celebrating the 20th anniversary of this festivity. Today we celebrate authors, illustrators, books, and reading. This UNESCO designated festivity has become global as it is celebrated in over 100 countries.

One of the main goals of World Book Day is to encourage children to read more and get emersed into the world of books. That is why it is a tradition for young people to dress up as their favourite characters on this day.

Here are some of our favourite books:

Veronica Roth

Divergent – In the world of Divergent, society is divided into five factions – Candor, Abnegation, Dauntless, Amity and Erudite. Every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice Prior, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is. Her choice shocks everyone, including herself.

Isabel Allende

La casa de los espíritus – Spanning four generations, Isabel Allende’s magnificent family saga is populated by a memorable, often eccentric cast of characters. Together, men and women, spirits, the forces of nature, and of history, converge in an unforgettable, wholly absorbing and brilliantly realised novel that is as richly entertaining as it is a masterpiece of modern literature.

Malorie Blackman

Noughts & Crosses – Sephy is a Cross – a member of the dark-skinned ruling class. Callum is a nought – a ‘colourless’ member of the underclass who was once slaves to the Crosses. The two have been friends since early childhood. But that’s as far as it can go. Until the first steps are taken towards more social equality and a limited number of Noughts are allowed into Cross schools… Against a background of prejudice and distrust, intensely highlighted by violent terrorist activity by Noughts, a romance builds between Sephy and Callum – a romance that is to lead both of them into terrible danger…

John Green

The Fault in Our Stars – Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel’s story is about to be completely rewritten.

We hope on this World Book Day you get inspired to read more and appreciate the magical world of books.
